Vintage Sunday
What is your favorite vintage fashion? One of my personal favorites is antique keys. I have been a collector of them for years. Never having any direction for my use of them besides throwing one on a great chain or leather rope, I am now searching for a more solid plan with them. I started my collection from my grandmothers house. I am not sure what they were exactly used for but the mystery of what kind of door it may open intrigues me. So when on my search for new ones, I start with antique shops, flea markets, and of course eBay. There are so many collectors out there and I even have come across some rather quite expensive ones such as rail road keys, jail keys and those of the 1800′s. The most exquisite are ones from old castles and victorian manors.
I was searching for some independent designers and came across two unique Vintage designers that both show two very different forms of fine craftsmanship. Check out The Vintage Key and VandM.
The Vintage Key, by Kama McClanahan-Darr. I just came across Kama when looking for new keys to add to my collection. The website is sweet and has a whimsical memory of childhood just like in her designs, it brings back memories of my life. Kama uses vintage materials to create jewelry. Just as how I search for my keys, Kama too scours the market to find her pieces of inspiration for that unique piece and is brought to you right on her Etsy site. One of my favorite pieces that I have come across is a Steampunk Vintage watch Face bracelet. What makes this unique is how she pulled the pieces together and assembled them so intricately. This piece really shows her talent in jewelry making. You can also find her on facebook.
“My thrill, at the moment, is vintage typewriters, vintage buttons and anything that can be soldered between two pieces of glass.
Sometimes I find myself day dreaming about the story each of these pieces could tell us about the past and I can’t help but smile. But for me, the biggest satisfaction is watching people, as they realize what my jewelry is made from, get an unforgettable smile on their face and start sharing their memories with all those around. It brings happiness to people. It takes the seriousness out of the moment. It helps to remember the simpler times. It simply makes you smile.
Robin Baron Design by, Robin Baron was successful in fashion as a designer. She studied antiques and interior design at Parsons School of Design. The very close relationship between designing fashion and interior design can come quite handy. This woman not only can design apparel but she found that her niche was in commercial and residential design. Her technique is introducing vintage with modern. She writes a very fabulous blog- Simplifying Fabulous, about Interior Design and I found it really helpful and inspirational. Check out her new exclusive collection at VandM. One of my favorite pieces is the Antique Iron Key Shop Sign and its sold, waa-wa…Like her on facebook.
