Plus! October’s Model of the Month
This month’s model is someone very cool and inspiring – and I’m saying cool because this one is right in my backyard! That’s right, she’s from the great Steel Town – Pittsburgh. She runs a very inspiring blog about her travels and being involved in the fashion industry, and no she doesn’t just model she also works for ModCloth – a clothing line based in Pittsburgh that carries vintage-inspired clothing for all sizes. Cool? I think so.
Age: 22
Location: PIttsburgh, PA
Dress Size: 14
Height: 5’11
What got you started in the plus size modeling industry?
MF: My best friend and boyfriend really encouraged me to give it a try, so I tried it and fell in love.
Why did you want to model?
MF: I wanted to be a positive influence for women in the fashion industry. Also, modeling is a great creative outlet for me, I can almost act like someone else.
How did you start working for ModCloth? Has this helped you in your modeling career?
MF: I started at ModCloth as an intern two and a half years ago! I asked Susan if we could meet up because she was a huge inspiration to me, she said yes and that is how I landed my internship. I am also ModCloth’s first and only plus size model currently. They were my first big modeling gig, so that has been great.
MF: ModCloth.com, Sheila Frank, HipsandCurves.com, and Macy’s to name some of the big ones. I have also done a lot of trade work with photographers around Pittsburgh and NYC.
Which has been your favorite shoot?
MF: That is really tough, I loved all of the shoots in a different way! I really love dark and emotional stuff the best.
If you could change something about the fashion industry, what would it be and why?
MF: I wish there were more established high fashion designers for girls sizes 10+ to drool over, and more clothing options in general for sizes 10 and up.
What is your MUST HAVE fashion staple and why?
MF: Right now I would have to say crazy lipstick, I just recently discovered it all over again, and I cannot stop wearing it.
What is your advice to other plus size women?
MF: Always be fearless with what you wear, if you feel good, you look good.
