Norma Kamali Fall 2012

Feb 16, 12 Norma Kamali Fall 2012

At age 66, with 45 years in the industry, Norma Kamali’s still got it. Last season Kamali showcased her spring line via online shopping and a 3-D video, going against the traditional fashion show. This season Kamali surprised us again- eight foot glamazons made from cardboard cut-outs were spread out in a showroom on the Hudson River pier. The backdrop was a screen showing their real-life counterparts modeling in the same clothes! Very cool, Kamali.

Two lines were showcased: OMO, her premium brand and KamaliKulture, the new under-$100 line for fashionistas on a budget. I enjoyed viewing both her collections because I feel that it shows how high fashion clothing can translate into ready-to-wear.

The cardboard cut-outs can sound cheesy at first, but had you been there you would have been impressed. Guests had smiles on their faces- rare in the fashion industry and a beautiful thing in my eyes. Kamali’s presentation was meant to be fun, and it was! Viewers interacted with the glamazon cardboards while checking out the live video and sipping on drinks. The photos below should give you a feel of what this presentation was all about:

Kamali’s premium brand, OMO, was stunningly beautiful. She used deep, passionate colors like reds, plums, chocolate browns and oranges. The collection had a sort of gypsy feel to it, a bit more playful and whimsical. These are definitely clothes that would make you feel good.

This LBD is my favorite piece from the KamaliKulture line. This line was fashion-forward, adorable, and best of all, accessible. Jersey fabrics and fun prints were showcased.
