Bill Blass Fall 2012 Review

Feb 16, 12 Bill Blass Fall 2012 Review

Bill Blass is iconic. But with current head designer Jeffrey Monteiro holding the reigns, the brand is staying modern and fresh.

Even though Monteiro’s style is much different than that of Mr. Bill Blass, he aims to create a similar end product: chic sportswear with an uptown vibe.

This season, models walked throughout a packed room at the Union League Club on Park Avenue wearing sophisticated tuxedo pants, structured jackets, and predominantly black and navy colors, with pops of blue, gold, red, and dark green making appearances throughout the collection.

A contrast of both shiny and matte fabrics, Monteiro showed a well-balanced and extremely wearable collection. With light touches of fur and the perfect amount of sparkle, I am sure Bill Blass Fall/Winter 2012 will be picked up by the fashion elite.

My favorite look was black dress with an intensely deep neckline and sheer skirt. It was a sexy take on the classic LBD.

That was the best part of the collection…the mix of both regal and seductive pieces.

After the show, I was able to catch up with Monteiro and ask him a few questions about his inspiration and the future of the Bill Blass brand:

Caitlin: What was the inspiration behind his F/W 2012 collection?
Jeffrey: It is still American Sportswear when designing for Bill Blass. A slick, regal look and the idea of “matte vs. shine” were also concepts that inspired the collection. Spanish paintings and color also had influence on the looks.

Caitlin: What does the future hold for the Bill Blass brand?
Jeffrey: It’s all about evolution. We want to build on it each season.

Caitlin: Favorite piece/look of the F/W 2012 collection?
Jeffrey: It varies. One days it’s this, the next day it’s that. It changes everyday.

Caitlin: Are there any similarities between you and Mr. Bill Blass?
Jeffrey: No, but that’s probably a good thing.

Check out some images from the collection and let us know what you think! Are you inspired by the latest Bill Blass collection?
